2019 Presentation Night

The RMIT Women’s Football Academy has celebrated its inaugural season at the club’s Presentation Night.

In the City Campus’ Garden Building – fittingly, the very room in which the Academy was launched back in October of 2018 – the club reflected on the successful establishment of not only two teams in VAFA but a multi-faceted real-life experience program for RMIT student interns from faculties from Media & Communications to chiropractic and corporate partnerships.

It was a glorious night for defenders as Neve O’Connor claimed the Seniors’ Best & Fairest Award and Kristy McClaer completed her fairytale transition from the forward line to the backline as she was awarded the Reserves’ Best & Fairest.

Executive committee member Chris O’Connor made history as he received the first Clubperson of the Year in recognition of his commitment and contribution to the fulfilment of the Academy’s extraordinary vision and ambition, which he has been involved in from the start.

In addition to walking away with second place in the Seniors’ Best & Fairest and the Seniors’ Leading Goal-Kicker Award, Thomay Nicolaou was voted by her peers as the Players’ Player.

Tahlia Ingram rounded out the Seniors’ Best & Fairest count in third place while captain Mia Deverell (second) and Julz Nannetti (third with the Reserves’ Leading Goal-Kicker Award to boot) claimed silverware for the Reserves’ Best & Fairest.

Emily Balaburov (Seniors) and Hannah Steer (Reserves) were awarded the Coach’s Award by Mitch Lower and Gezim Zeneli respectively.
